synopsis
Blues for an Alabama Sky was produced in 1995, and later performed at the Atlanta Summer Olympic Games in 1996. Set in 1930 in Harlem, New York, this play tells the story of young African Americans who are aspiring to become musicians, clothing designers, doctors, and entrepreneurs. Pearl Cleage uses these characters to reflect the struggle of African American musicians, artists, and performers during the Harlem Renaissance.
